Position
Choose a location that receives full sunlight for at least 6-8 hours daily. Grapevines thrive in sunny spots, which help ensure optimal growth and fruit development.
In colder climates, protect the vines during winter by mulching around the base and covering them with frost cover. This helps prevent damage from freezing temperatures.
Soil
Dan Ben Hannah grapes prefer well-drained soil. Sandy loam or loamy soil with good drainage. Avoid heavy clay or poorly drained soils to prevent root rot. A neutral pH between 6 – 6.8. Space Dan Ben Hannah vines 2- 3 m apart to allow for adequate growth and air circulation.
Watering
After planting, keep the soil consistently moist to help the vine establish itself. Ensure proper drainage to avoid waterlogging.
Once established, Dan Ben Hannah vines are relatively drought-tolerant but will benefit from regular watering during dry periods. Water at the base of the plant to keep foliage dry and reduce disease risk.
Fertilising
Use our slow release berry fertiliser (used for all plants) apply one teaspoon every 4-5 months, the roots will absorb what they require.
Mulch
Mulch with 2 to 5 centimetres of pine bark mulch. Mulching around the base of the plant helps retain moisture and suppress weeds. Replace the mulch every 3-4 months,
Pruning
Prune the vines during the dormant season (late winter) to remove dead, diseased, or weak wood. Pruning also helps shape the vine and improve air circulation.
During the growing season, trim excess shoots and foliage to maintain vine health and ensure that sunlight reaches the fruit. This helps improve fruit quality and reduce disease risk.
Harvesting
Depending on the growing region, the grapes are harvested in late Summer to early Autumn. They should be picked when fully ripe to ensure the best flavor and texture.
Pest and Disease Control
Agricultural Neem Oil or Effective Microorganisms (EM Control ) will assist in either prevention or after the fact. If you already have aphids or mites, wash the vine with a harsh hosing, and when dry, spray with Neem oil or EM Control.
