The strikingly beautiful dragon fruit is a cactus that thrives in hot, humid, subtropical conditions. They won’t grow in very cold conditions. It has some of the biggest flowers in the world. And, what really sets them apart is that they only bloom for one night and their scent is gorgeously exotic and fruity.
The stem growing from the cutting is to be tied onto the stake. Dragon fruit plants need to be staked as soon as you plant them. Their roots grow large and there will not be place to support them later once they are established
They can grow well in a container too but ensure strong support when planting.
As the stems grow out of the cutting (as per picture) one long stem is tied to the stake. You only keep one stem and cut any additional growth off with a sharp knife. Flowers are removed to encourage good growth.
