7 Pot Barrackpore Chilli Pepper

The 7 Pot Barrackpore chili pepper, like other “7 Pot” varieties, is named for its reputation that one pepper is hot enough to spice up seven pots of stew. It specifically comes from the region of Barrackpore in Trinidad and Tobago, where many hot pepper varieties originate.
It ranges between 800,000 and 1,300,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), which places it among the hottest peppers in the world.
The 7 Pot Barrackpore pepper is characterized by its wrinkled and pitted surface, similar to other 7 Pot varieties. It has a lantern-like shape with a pointed tip, and it ranges from green when immature to bright red when fully ripe.
Beyond its intense heat, the 7 Pot Barrackpore offers a fruity and sometimes floral flavour. The heat is immediate and intense, often accompanied by tropical fruitiness that adds depth to its taste.

Growing 7 Pot Barrackpore peppers requires warm temperatures, plenty of sunlight, and well-drained soil. They are typically grown as annual plants and are known for their productivity, yielding numerous peppers per plant.Scroll Down for Growing Information:

Position

Plant your 7 Pot Barrackpore chili peppers in a location that receives full sun, which means at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.

Adequate sunlight helps in the production of flavorful and hot peppers.

Soil Requirements

Use well-draining soil with a pH level between 6.0 and 7.0. Sandy loam or loamy soil enriched with organic matter is ideal.

Good drainage is crucial to prevent waterlogged conditions, which can lead to root rot.

Watering:

Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Water deeply when the top inch of soil feels dry.

Avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of fungal diseases. Use a soaker hose or drip irrigation if possible.

Fertilising:

Fertilise 7 Pot Barrackpore chili peppers with a balanced fertiliser (10-10-10) once a month during the growing season.

Alternatively use our slow-release nitrogen rich all-plant fertiliser. Apply one teaspoon every 4-5 months. The roots will absorb what they need.

Support and Pruning

Support the plants as they grow, especially once they start producing peppers. Stake or cage the plants to prevent them from bending or breaking under the weight of the fruit.

Prune the plants sparingly, if needed, to improve air circulation and manage the size, but avoid excessive pruning that may reduce fruit production.

Pest and Disease Management:

Monitor for common pests such as aphids, spider mites, and pepper weevils. Spraying with agricultural Neem Oil or Effective Microorganisms (EM Control ) will assist in either prevention or after the fact. If you already have aphids or mites, wash the vine with a harsh hosing, and when dry, spray with Neem oil or EM Control.

Harvesting

7 Pot Barrackpore chili peppers typically mature 90-120 days after planting, depending on growing conditions.

Harvest peppers when they reach full size and color. For the hottest peppers ripen fully on the plant to develop maximum heat.
