Swiss Choc Habanero in RS Pot

R450.00

Capsicum Chinense

Swiss chocolate habanero is one of the most unique chillies you could try. The pods start off with a green colour and end up in a deep dark brown when it is mature.

The pods are about 5cm long and 4cm wide, boasting much flavour. You will get both apple and berries and raisin flavours when biting into this pod, as it still packs some heat.

Heat Factor: Swiss Chocolate Habanero rates at 450 000 on the Scoville Heat units.

Chilli peppers grow best in hot climates, won’t tolerate frost, and enjoy full sun. The ideal growing temperatures are between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius.

This chili plant is grown in a Root Stimulating Pot, in the correct soil. It’s perfect for small properties or cold climates, as these pots are lightweight and easy to bring indoors during the winter. Additionally, it makes a wonderful gift when presented in a container!

Position

Swiss Choc Habanero thrive in warm climates with plenty of sunlight. They require temperatures of 21°C – 32°C during the growing season.
The plants grow to about 1m in height. They need space for airflow and sunlight, so plant them about 45cm apart.

Since Swiss Choc Habanero plants can get top-heavy due to their fruit, it’s a good idea to provide support with stakes or cages to prevent the plants from breaking.

Watering

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. In hot weather water your chilli in the Root Stimulating Pot every day if no rain.

Mulch

Use from 2 to 5 centimetres of pine bark mulch to protect the roots from UV damage and drying out. It retains moisture and maintains an optimal pH. Do not let the mulch touch the plant stem, as it may cause infection or rot.

Re-apply every 3-4 months.

Pruning

Prune the plants by removing any dead or damaged leaves. You can also pinch back the growing tips to encourage branching and more fruit production.

Fertilising

Use a balanced fertiliser (such as 10-10-10) during planting and again every 4-6 weeks throughout the growing season to encourage healthy growth.

Too much nitrogen can lead to excessive foliage growth with little fruit production.

Apply 1 teaspoon every 4-5 months of our slow-release all-plant fertiliser. The roots will absorb what they need.

Pests & Diseases

Watch for pests like aphids, spider mites, and whiteflies.

Super-hot peppers like the Apocalypse can be susceptible to fungal infections, especially in overly moist conditions. Ensure the plants have adequate air circulation, and avoid overhead watering.

Treat promptly or preferably use preventative measures by spraying with agricultural Neem Oil or Effective Microorganisms (EM Control)
